Dr. N. Summer Lerch is our board-accredited cosmetic dentist as well as the owner of the Center for Esthetic Dentistry in New Haven, CT. She takes great pride in helping patients transform their smiles into beautiful works of art. She has decades of dental experience and can help patients achieve beautiful smiles that are also healthy and functional.
She has wanted to work in the field of dentistry for as long as she can remember. Even as a child, she was told she would be a great hygienist. At 17, her mentor, Dr. Baird Barterson, recognized her passion and suggested that she become a dentist instead of a hygienist.
In college, she was working towards dental school and she started doing pottery. She loved working with her hands and developing herself as an artist. This propelled her into the art of cosmetic dentistry, where she could combine both passions to create stunning smiles that changed people's lives.
Education and Professional Accomplishments
Dr. Lerch began her professional education at Whitman College. She then moved on to dental school, attending the University of Washington School of Dentistry, where she graduated in 1982.
Following dental school and college, Dr. Lerch obtained her accreditation with the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry (AACD). She was the first female dentist in New England to be accredited by the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry and the fourth female dentist in the world to earn this accreditation. She has held this accreditation for 33 years. She has also been a board examiner for the AACD for over 20 years.
Dr. Lerch has also achieved the prestigious title of Fellow in the Academy of General Dentistry. She believes that these accreditations and affiliations have helped her become an even better doctor and smile designer.

She also recently became Vice President of the Connecticut State Dental Association.
She loves her community of New Haven for its intellectualism and artistic energy. New Haven is known worldwide for its Art and Ideas conference. She loves that her community is small, agricultural, and neighborly.

Before coming to the office I had a bad experience at another dentist. So I was VERY anxious and skeptical about seeing another dentist. The office made me feel at home right away—like a family. I had a torsion at the roof of my mouth and my teeth were just starting to feel as though they didn’t even belong in my own mouth. The Invisalign helped to stop the torsion development, make my teeth feel as though they belonged again and straightened my teeth (as an added benefit). Highly recommend the office. The Dentist is exceptional and will set you mind at ease reguardless of your issues with your teeth.
